Dilip Ghosh faces 'Go Back' slogans by BJP activists at Kolaghat

Tensions erupted in Kolaghat when senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh was met with loud protests and "Go Back" slogans by a section of his own party workers. Ghosh, accompanied by his wife, had arrived in the Bardabari area after a visit to Digha to have lunch at the residence of BJP worker Kamalesh Kandar. The meal had been arranged by BJP leader Narayan Maity. However, upon arrival, they were obstructed at the gate by party members opposing Maity’s faction.

The protesting BJP workers raised slogans against Ghosh and demanded he leave immediately. A brief confrontation followed as the protesters tried to prevent both Ghosh and Maity’s associates from entering the premises. Despite the commotion, Dilip Ghosh eventually entered the house alone and had lunch, while his wife remained outside during the peak of the unrest. Police from Kolaghat police station reached the spot to manage the situation and ensure no physical altercations occurred.

The internal conflict is reportedly centred around ongoing factional disputes within the BJP’s Purba Medinipur unit. While no statement was issued by Ghosh or the party at the scene, the protest highlighted the depth of dissatisfaction among some local BJP cadres regarding recent organisational moves and internal alignments. Kamalesh Kandar and Narayan Maity did not comment publicly on the incident.

Earlier on Wednesday, photos from the meeting between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Dilip Ghosh quickly spread, sparking unrest within BJP ranks in Medinipur. Around 10 PM, a group of BJP workers and supporters protested outside the party’s district office in Medinipur’s Sipahi Bazar area. They locked the main gate, hung a garland of shoes on a photograph of Dilip Ghosh, and labelled him a "dalal" (agent). Protesters accused Ghosh of working for the Trinamool Congress and condemned his Digha visit and meeting with the Chief Minister as unilateral and unauthorised. They demanded his immediate expulsion from the party.
